China: ‘Smiling Face’ Optical Illusion Box Created by Parrots

On January 21, 2026, in Anhui, eastern China, a video showed a white box with two round holes and a curved opening below, forming the shape of a strange smiling face. When the filmer touched the holes, two large eyes suddenly appeared inside, giving the illusion of a human-like face staring outward. The image looked unsettling at first. The effect was created by two parrots positioned behind the holes. Their dark pupils and surrounding white feathers produced the illusion from the chosen angle.

Kabul Kangana Grape Storage - Afghanistan

A villager uses finished Kangana jars as molds to shape bowls for new ones in the northern outskirts of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, Aug. 25, 2025. The Kangana, an ancient clay jar to preserve grapes, has been widely used in the rural outskirts north of Kabul. This century-old Afghan container enables grapes harvested in the heat of summer to stay fresh until the following spring. A Kangana is an ellipsoid formed by placing two bowl-shaped compoents face to face, with no apparent front or back side. Once sealed with mud around its brim, the jar becomes nearly airtight, functioning as a natural "vacuum storage container." In some Afghan villages, the Kangana was once used to store peppers and apples as well. Today, with these vegetables and fruits available year-round, grapes remain as the main object in its starage. TOKYO, Japan - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. said on Dec. 8 it has released a new minicar, the Subaru R2 (photo), which features a round-shape design, light body and high gas mileage. The Subaru R2 employs a newly developed undercarriage, which makes it weigh about 70 kilograms lighter than the existing Pleo minicar. The new car has a high fuel efficiency of 24 kilometers per liter.
